Vitiligo is a disease characterized by white patches on the skin. The disease develops as a result of autoimmune melanocyte damage on the basis of genetic predisposition. Its incidence in the community varies between 0.5-20%. D can be seen shortly after birth or in any period of life.
Lesions in vitiligo may be limited or widespread. However, involvement of knees, elbows, hands and feet, around the eyes and mouth is frequently seen. The diagnosis of vitiligo is made by dermatological examination. Wood's light examination is helpful in diagnosis.
Laboratory evaluation can be used to detect other autoimmune diseases (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Pernicious anemia, type 1 Diabetes, etc.) that may be related. Skin biopsy can be performed for definitive diagnosis of the disease in suspicious cases. In the treatment, mainly topical steroids, casineurin inhibitors, phototherapy and laser can be applied.
